Kumbari Staffords

The Best Holiday

Long time stafford friends, sent me this catch up.  After I stopped laughing I just had to share their story.
Maddie, the stafford, is 8 year old daughter of 'Wombat' and Sid is the other dog that we just don't mention.
Maria and Brian were heavily involved in the Stafford club in the early 90's, Brian was Treasurer for some time and Maria was Show Secretary.

Hi there,

I'm attaching some photos of my recent trip to Coolum for a seaside holiday....apparently our dogs aren't beach goers. Let me explain.

I thought I'd hit the jackpot when I found a group of people who advertise "Dog Friendly" holidays. Great stuff! I booked way back in August last year and couldn't wait to spend some R & R with my favourite 4 legged people.

Samantha and I arrived late on Saturday afternoon. Although late the pool looked rather inviting so I "tested the waters". Maddie was immediately alarmed and ran around the pool to get the best vantage point. Not known for her sure footedness she fell into the pool. I watched as she made her way to the side and successfully scrambled out.

The next day we ventured to the beach. Now this beach is a "dog friendly" beach where you can walk your dog on the leash. We were fine with that. Knowing our dogs are unacustommed to the beach we introduced them slowly to the water. Everything seemed to be going well until a rather larger wave hit. This wave went as high as the top of Samantha's leg and so you can imagine it must have seemed somewhat like a Tsunami to Maddie and Sid. Needless to say they swam frantically to shore.

Maddie as always played the submissive role when a huge dog came bounding playfully at me. Unfortunately however I didn't see it coming and Maddie, whilst still on the lead ran behind me pulling me off my feet. I was laying flat out in the sand, my camera sailed through the air in one direction while my shoes went the other way. A very helpful man suggested we let them off the lead. Sid of course made straight for the carpark! I wish people would mind their own business.

Samantha had to leave after the first day. While I was on the phone to her on the second night I heard a splash in the pool...you guessed it, Maddie was in again!

As I was determined to make the most of our holiday I took them to the beach every morning...making sure they didn't get their paws wet. By the second day I had to literally drag Sid to the beach. Oh what fun!

About mid morning I would go for a swim in the pool. Maddie was fine until I decided to do a couple of laps. Apparently she thought I needed to be rescued. Now I understand my swimming style isn't flash and it might indeed look as though I'm drowning....however. After leaping into the water and landing on me I decided enough was enough and headed home.

Love
Maria
